We are in Mombasa, at the end of a safari trip and here we meet Alberto Gallacchi (a friend since we were children) and his wife Kirsten, both resident in Kenya for several years.

We spend a lot of time talking to them and the subjects they cover are very hard to follow.

The reality which they are faced with each day touches problems like child prostitution, the increasing number of chidren on the streets, the problem of teen-age mothers, the development of transmitted diseases, the increase of orphans.

Together with Mr and Mrs Gallacchi we have the opportunity to look at these problems at close range.

Africa is no longer a dream place where we can spend a wonderful holiday.

We can no longer close our eyes and remain indifferent in front of such serious situations.

We therefore decide to help out in some way, but what can we do? We begin to feel impotent, our capabilities are limited, it is such a faraway place which we actually know only through stories told.

We are however convinced that perhaps, if we worked from the basics by guaranteeing school attendance for children, by offering them an education, it could be a way of improving somebody’s life condition.

In fact, only educated people are able to choose and make decisions and able to achieve some status in a country’s social standing.

We therefore decide to visit a school with our friends.
