Longing Africa

Longing for space

I miss African lands, where no barriers are found, where boundaries aren’t marked, where the meaning of freedom is truer.

Spaces, defined only through games and spots of colour.

Spaces, which man does not dominate, upon which he has no power of intervention.

Spaces, which the human being does not regulate.

Spaces, where every individual is a respectful guest, together with all other creatures.

Longing for sounds

Inside the boundless space, forms and noises move.

Africa is to be listened to.

It is to be listened to through the voice of nature, following the run and the language of the wind whispering through the grass, the hiss of the whistling acacias, the rustle that animals produce travelling through the savannah, their voices through the night.

Longing for glances

Africa is to be looked upon through the eyes of its people.

It is to be looked upon through the glances of people, which enclose thousands of stories of a civilization.

Glances, which hit you in your innermost and which will always accompany you, whichever your course of life will be.

And then…

Hearing the earth again, its secret vibrations, the awareness of the time and of the origin of the world, which lies under my own feet.

The smell of dust, the intensity of the light and all around me the vast spaces.

AFRICA AGAIN.

The voice of the wind in the evening mixed and united with that of the waves of the ocean, when the waves smash against the coral reef during the long nights.

And the ocean speaks to you …

The happy looks of ‘our’ children who recognize me already.

A long, most tender hug.

The hope that rekindles in their eyes, that desperate need to be listened to.

Eyes of children, eyes of mothers, eyes of people who offer you the sweetest of smiles, but behind which you sink in a sea of sadness.

Moments of life which make me feel extremely small, a non-entity. However, these moments

allow me to feel the strength, the courage, and the incentive to continue giving a bit of myself. To give a thought, a small gesture of solidarity to whom lives so far away and is often forgotten.
